Woman Killed in DOT Dump Truck Accident in Queens

Investigation Underway After 31-Year-Old Woman Died in Queens DOT Dump Truck Collision on Metropolitan Avenue

Pedestrian Died in Newark Car Accident By Thomas Street

QUEENS, NEW YORK (March 11, 2026) – A 31-year-old woman has tragically died in a Queens dump truck accident by the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard.

New York City officials are saying the collision occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The victim was crossing at Lefferts Boulevard when she was hit by the dump truck as it was making a right turn.

She became stuck under the dump truck and dragged for some distance. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the DOT dump truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Liability for Queens Dump Truck Accidents

Dump truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” There are many different ways that a truck driver may have acted negligently prior to a dump truck crash.

  • A driver may have failed to check their blind spots before making a turn in the roadway.
  • A driver may have been traveling at a speed that would be unsafe given the prevailing road conditions.
  • A driver may have failed to use their horn to alert pedestrians of their presence.

If a dump truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, they could be held liable for the collision. Their employer could also be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers can be directly liable for the negligent conduct of their employees who are acting within the course and scope of their job duties. The family members of any person killed in a collision with a truck driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
