BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN (April 21, 2026) – A 59-year-old man has tragically died in a Brooklyn Heights hit-and-run car accident by the intersection of Cadman Plaza West and Clinton Street.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A Freightliner box truck was heading down the street when a man allegedly grabbed onto the side of the truck.
That person eventually fell off the truck and was run over. The driver of the truck did not stop at the scene to help the victim.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Brooklyn Heights Truck Accidents
Drivers must use caution to avoid pedestrians and stop after any crash has taken place. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code § 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Multiple factors could contribute to any pedestrian accident.
- A driver may have been distracted from looking at their phone.
- A driver may have been intoxicated through their use of prescription medications.
- A driver may have been fatigued from working long hours.
Far too many people are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run collisions. These collisions tend to involve drivers that are distracted or not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. Drivers that flee the scene of injury collisions may face criminal as well as civil liability. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian collision may be able to pursue damages through a wrongful death claim.
