Long Island Police Investigating Fatal Hicksville Garbage Truck Collision on South Oyster Bay Road

NYC Roadway Where Accident or Crash Took Place

HICKSVILLE, NEW YORK (September 18, 2026) – A 66-year-old man has tragically died in a Hicksville garbage truck accident along South Oyster Bay Road.

Long Island officials are saying that the incident occurred on Labor Day. Authorities said that the victim was working on the truck at an automotive services business when it rolled over him.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the injured victim. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A full investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Hicksville Garbage Truck Accidents

Most workplace claims in New York will be adjudicated under the state’s workers’ compensation law. This is a no-fault insurance scheme that allows injured workers to recover if they are harmed during the course and scope of their job duties. In addition to workers’ compensation, New York also has some of the strongest labor laws in the country. In particular, New York Labor Law 200 requires that worksites be maintained in a reasonably safe condition. It is important that certain actions are taken after any workplace accident.

  • All of the medical records related to the incident should be collected and preserved.
  • Surveillance footage that may have captured the incident should be reviewed.
  • Any vehicle that may have been involved should be examined for potential defects.
  • The family of any person who died should request an independent investigation by a team experienced in accident claims.

Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be several sources of liability for any garbage truck accident. This includes the company that manufactured the garbage truck. A number of accidents involving vehicles that roll away are due to safety issues with the vehicle. It is important that victims understand that they do have legal rights in these situations. In particular, the surviving family members of any person who died may be able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a wrongful death claim.
