Liability for Melville Car Accidents
Drivers must use caution to avoid causing car accidents. Many car accidents involve drivers that make dangerous left turns. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Several factors could contribute to a left-turn collision.
- Driver intoxication
- Driver fatigue
- Inclement weather
- Poor road conditions
The vast majority of car accidents are preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers fail to properly scan the road ahead of them or observe traffic regulations. It is important for accident victims to know that they do have legal options. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a personal injury claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
