Liability for East Atlantic Beach DWI Car Accidents
Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” There are many ways that alcohol can seriously impact a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely.
- It is substantially more difficult for drivers to remain in a single lane of traffic when intoxicated.
- Intoxicated drivers are more likely to travel at excessive speeds without realizing it.
- Drivers are far less able to multitask when they’re intoxicated by one or more substances.
It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances. In particular, drivers must not have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that hits another vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Victims of these collisions are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
