Driver Charged With DWI After Teen Seriously Injured in West Babylon Collision
WEST BABYLON, NEW YORK (October 26, 2026) – An 18-year-old passenger was seriously injured in a West Babylon car accident involving a utility pole.
Suffolk County officials are saying that the accident occurred around 3:49 a.m. on Saturday. The teen from Deer Park was riding as a passenger in a 2021 Mercedes-Benz SUV.
That vehicle was allegedly traveling down the roadway at a high rate of speed along the eastbound lanes of 17th St. At some point, the car reportedly struck a curb before hitting the utility pole.
First responders were called to the collision to help the innocent victim. The woman was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital to receive medical assistance.
Driver intoxication is a suspected factor in the collision.
Liability for West Babylon DWI Accidents
New York’s Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1192 makes it illegal for any person to operate a motor vehicle while they’re impaired by drugs or alcohol. When a driver causes an injury collision under the influence of alcohol, they could be held legally responsible for the accident. In addition to civil liability, drunk drivers can also face criminal sanctions for their actions. Courts will take into consideration several factors when evaluating liability for any DWI collision.
- Driver Conduct: They will consider the conduct of the driver involved and whether the driver failed to exercise due care.
- Test Results: They will consider the results of any breath or blood test that a driver took.
- Vehicle Ownership: They will also take into consideration the owner of the vehicle. Vehicle owners can potentially be liable for the negligent actions of the people they loan or lease their vehicles to.
- Alcohol Source: The source of alcohol could create additional avenues of liability, particularly if a bar served a visibly intoxicated person.
When drivers become intoxicated and collide with fixed objects, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Any person injured in a collision with an intoxicated driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
