Livery Driver Killed in Car Accident in Midwood, Brooklyn

NYPD Searching For Driver Involved in Livery Cab Collision That Left One Person Dead and Another Critically Injured

Winslow Township Car Accident

MIDWOOD, BROOKLYN (October 9, 2026) – A 62-year-old livery driver has died and his passenger was critically injured in a three-vehicle collision on Ocean Parkway in Midwood.

New York City Police Department officials are saying that the accident occurred early Monday morning. A Lyft driver was reportedly rear-ended by a black Audi sedan.

Another car was subsequently struck following that impact. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims.

Unfortunately, the 62-year-old Lyft driver involved in the accident died due to his injuries. His passenger was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police are still searching for the driver of the Audi believed to be involved in the crash.

Liability for Midwood Car Accidents

Every person operating a motor vehicle in New York has a legal obligation to exercise due care and use certain precautions to avoid accidents. Pursuant to Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1129, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Several other factors may contribute to a motor vehicle collision.

  • Speed remains one of the leading causes of preventable motor vehicle collisions.
  • Many collisions also involve drivers that are intoxicated by alcohol or other substances.
  • Many of these collisions also involve drivers that are making left turns.
  • Driver fatigue can also be just as dangerous as operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle ahead of them, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends a vehicle in their own lane of traffic. These types of collisions are nearly always the result of drivers that were speeding or following the lead vehicle too closely. The family of anyone who died in a collision with a speeding driver may be able to pursue a measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
