Liability for Atlantic Beach Car Accidents
Driver intoxication remains a leading cause of preventable injury and death and motor vehicle collisions in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” There are many ways alcohol can impair a person’s ability to drive safely.
- Alcohol can affect a person’s ability to stay in their own lane.
- Alcohol can reduce a person’s reaction times.
- Alcohol can cause a dramatic decline in a person’s vision.
It is illegal to operate any motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If a driver allows a motor vehicle to enter into opposing lanes of traffic, this could be construed as negligence. Any person injured in a collision due to the negligence of a drunk driver can seek damages through a personal injury claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
