Young Girl Injured After Being Hit by Falling Bricks in Maspeth

Investigation Underway After 6-Year-Old Girl Struck by Falling Bricks From Facade of Maspeth, Queens Home

Two People Injured In Staten Island Garbage Truck Accident

MASPETH, QUEENS (October 23, 2026) – A six-year-old girl was seriously injured after being hit by falling bricks while playing outside of a home in Queens on Maspeth Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident occurred around 7:30 PM on Thursday. The child reportedly leaned out of a window to say hi to her father before being hit in the head by falling bricks.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the injured victim. She was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for a head laceration and a broken leg.

It remains unclear what may have caused the bricks to come loose. The New York Department of Buildings issued a violation for the property owner for failure to maintain the garage building.

Liability for Maspeth Accidents Involving Falling Bricks

Building owners in New York City have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done to protect the safety of all persons whose presence is reasonably foreseeable at any property. In particular, NYC Administrative Code § 28-301.1 requires that all parts of a building are maintained in a safe condition. This includes the facade of the building. There are a number of relevant issues that should be considered after any accident involving falling bricks.

  • Maintenance History: The maintenance history of the building in question should be reviewed.
  • Warning Signs: It should be determined if there were any warning signs or earlier complaints related to falling materials.
  • Prior Accidents: Prior accidents at the site location should also be considered.
  • Ownership: The ownership of the building is another major consideration.

When a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition on their premises, they must take action. Failing to correct a hazardous condition could be considered as negligence. Many accidents involving falling bricks or other materials are not random occurrences. They tend to be the consequence of ongoing safety failures and oversights. Any person injured by a falling brick from a New York City building may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
