Woman Killed in Village of Central Square Truck Accident

Female Pedestrian Killed in Village of Central Square Car Accident Involving Detached Trailer

Pedestrian Killed In Clifton Car Accident

VILLAGE OF CENTRAL SQUARE, NEW YORK (July 5, 2026) – A female pedestrian has tragically died in a Village of Central Square car accident on the eastbound lanes of East Avenue.

New York State police are saying that a trailer reportedly detached from a pickup truck before hitting the woman near Gertrude Drive. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the woman who was on a mobility scooter.

She was transported to Upstate Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

It remains unclear if any citations will be issued against the driver of the pickup truck.

Liability for Village of Central Square Car Accidents

Every person operating a motor vehicle in New York has a legal obligation to exercise reasonable care to avoid collision. They must ensure that any trailer they are hauling is properly attached to their vehicle. According to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 375(1)(c), “Every trailer while being drawn upon the public highways of this state shall be so attached to the vehicle drawing the same as to prevent the wheels of such trailer from being deflected more than six inches from the path of the towing vehicle’s wheels.” There are a number of ways a driver may have been negligent prior to a collision.

  • A driver may have been traveling at a speed that would be unsafe given the prevailing road conditions.
  • A driver may have failed to maintain their vehicle in a single lane of traffic.
  • A driver may have made an unsafe turning movement prior to losing control of their vehicle.
  • A driver may have failed to adequately maintain their vehicle prior to a crash.

If a driver allows their trailer to become unattached and hit a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There could also be several other liable parties in addition to any specific driver involved in a crash. For example, the person or company that owned the truck could potentially be liable. Under New York law, vehicle owners can be liable for the negligent conduct of people they loaned their vehicle to. There is, however, an exception for most vehicle rental companies. Although, a vehicle rental service can be liable if they negligently entrusted their vehicle to someone that was otherwise unqualified to operate it.
