Six Injured Manhattan Roof Collapse Accident at Apartments on West 107th Street

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (January 4, 2026) – At least six people were injured in a Manhattan roof collapse accident at a six-story apartment building on W. 107th Street by Amsterdam Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:20 AM on Tuesday morning. Firefighters were called to the scene after getting reports that there was a roof collapse at the property.

They issued a full vacate order due to concerns that there may be a secondary collapse. In all, six people were injured in the accident.

Roughly 45 people sought assistance from the Emergency Red Cross. It remains unclear what may have caused the roof to collapse.

Liability for Manhattan Roof Collapse Accidents

Property owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. When a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition with their property, they must take action. Failing to take action prior to someone being injured could form the basis of a negligence claim. There are many ways that a property owner may have failed to adequately prevent a roof collapse accident.

  • A property owner may have failed to regularly inspect and maintain the roof.
  • A property owner may have ignored structural load limits.
  • A property owner may have failed to adequately address water intrusion into the roof of the building.
  • A property owner may have failed to keep their building up to code.

It can be hard to know what to do after any roof collapse accident. Victims are often left with traumatic injuries and high medical bills. Many people are so seriously injured that they are unable to return to their previous profession. It is important for victims to understand that they do have legal options. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
