Several People Injured In Queens Car Accident on Van Wyck Expressway

QUEENS, NEW YORK (May 28, 2024) – Multiple people were injured in a Queens car accident on the Van Wyck Expressway near 69th Road in Kew Garden.

New York City police officials are saying that the collision took place around 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Multiple vehicles collided on the roadway, causing a traffic jam in the area.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. Several people were transported to Jamaica Hospital in order to receive treatment.

A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Queens Car Accidents

Car accidents are one of the leading causes of injury and death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “recent data (2) indicate that U.S. motor vehicle crash deaths increased from 36,355 in 2019 to 38,824 in 2020 (a 6.8% increase), despite an 11.0% decrease in vehicle miles traveled. In addition, early estimates for 2021 indicate motor vehicle crash deaths further increased to 42,915.” Drivers should take a number of different actions in order to avoid collisions.

  • Drivers should slow down during periods of heavy traffic.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.

Speeding remains a major cause of vehicle collisions. Pursuant to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1180, no person is allowed to operate a motor vehicle faster than what would be prudent or safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. If a driver was speeding prior to an accident, this could create the basis for a negligence claim. There are several steps to take after any car accident.

  • Drivers should seek medical support.
  • Drivers should report the incident to the police.
  • Drivers should get contact information from all involved parties.
  • Drivers should seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.

Most accident victims may not immediately realize the full extent of their injuries. Victims are filled with adrenaline after a collision and this can mask feelings of pain. Any person who is injured in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
