Motorcyclist Killed In Brooklyn Car Accident

New York City Police Investigating Fatal Brooklyn Collision By Oxbow Creek Drive North and Quail Avenue North

Dump Truck Accident

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (May 28, 2024) –  A motorcyclist has tragically died in a Brooklyn car accident at the intersection of Oxbow Creek Drive North and Quail Avenue North.

New York City police are saying that the incident took place around 6:10 p.m. on Thursday. A motorcyclist was heading through the intersection when they were hit by a vehicle.

EMS were called to the scene in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, the motorcyclist later died due to their injuries.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For Brooklyn Car Accidents

Motorcycles have a naturally small profile, and their riders lack the protection of enclosed vehicles. According to the Insurance Information Institute, “Motorcycles are by their nature far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. They are also less visible to other drivers and pedestrians and less stable than four-wheel vehicles.” There are a number of factors that may contribute to a motorcycle collision.

  • Speeding
  • Inclement weather
  • Driver intoxication
  • Vehicle system failures

Drivers must exercise due care at all times in order to avoid hitting motorcyclists. Many of these collisions involve drivers who make dangerous left turns. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” It is important that evidence is properly collected after any collision.

  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Many local businesses capture accidents with surveillance footage.
  • The police report for the collision should be reviewed.

At the end of the day, evidence can help paint a clear picture of what happened. Sadly, though, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything that they can to deny liability when a crash does occur. This is why it is so important for accident victims to seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
