Investigation Underway After Pedestrian Died in Lower East Side Car Accident by Stanton Street and Clinton Street

LOWER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK (December 29, 2025) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a Lower East Side car accident by the intersection of Stanton Street and Clinton Street.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place on Thursday night. The pedestrian was trying to cross the roadway when they were hit by an SUV that turned right from Clinton Street.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.

Despite life-saving measures at the hospitals, she died due to the severe nature of her injuries. A full investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Lower East Side Pedestrian Accidents

Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. This may necessitate that they travel well below the stated speed limit during certain periods. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. When drivers fail to avoid a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil action. It is important that certain actions are taken after any hit-and-run collision.
