Women Killed In Gloucester County Semi-Truck Accident On I-295

MOTT HAVEN, BRONX (May 15, 2026) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a Mott Haven hit-and-run semi-truck accident by the intersection of East 138th St. and Bruckner Boulevard.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:30 PM on Saturday. A 40-year-old man was crossing the street when he was hit by a tractor-trailer.

He was subsequently hit by a taxi. The driver of the taxi stopped at the scene of the collision.

However, the truck driver left the scene. Paramedics were called to the accident to help the victim. Sadly, the injured man later died due to his injuries.

Liability for Mott Haven Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be several liable parties beyond a specific truck driver. This includes the company that owned or operated a truck involved in the crash. The family of any person who died in the collision is able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
