Woman Died in Crown Heights Truck Collision on Eastern Parkway

COMMACK, NEW YORK (August 3, 2026) – A 62-year-old man has tragically died in a Commack truck accident along Veterans Memorial Highway.

Long Island police officials are saying that the incident took place around 4:42 PM on Tuesday afternoon. The victim reportedly walked behind a 2023 International tractor.

That tractor rolled backwards and pinned his legs under the vehicle. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim.

He was transported to Saint Catherine of Sienna Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

A full investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Long Island Truck Accidents

Many people are seriously injured or killed every year in truck accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 5,218 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, a 3% decrease from 2023 but a 30% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is also down 3% from 2023, but up 9% in the last 10 years.” Companies that manufacture trucks and other commercial vehicles have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. There are a number of potential issues with a truck that could cause it to be unsafe.

  • A semi-truck could have defective brakes that cause it to inadvertently roll backwards.
  • A semi-truck may have defective tires that cause a driver to lose control.
  • A semi-truck may lack critical safety features.

If a defective design in a truck contributed to an accident, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be multiple liable parties for a truck accident. This includes the company that was responsible for servicing the truck. After any accident where a truck inadvertently rolls backwards, it is important to consider all of the people who were responsible for the upkeep of that truck. The family of any person who died in a truck accident is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
