Teenager Died in East Village Truck Accident

Girl Remains Hospitalized After 15-Year-Old Girl Died in East Village, Manhattan Truck Accident

East Greenbush Semi-Truck Accident

EAST VILLAGE, NEW YORK (October 9, 2026) – A young girl has tragically died and another was seriously injured in an East Village, Manhattan truck accident at E. 14th St. and First Avenue.

New York City Police Department officials are saying that the collision occurred around 9 PM on Friday. A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl were on a bike that was hit by a truck making a right turn.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims. Sadly, the 15-year-old girl died due to her injuries, and the older girl was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for major injuries.

The impact pulled the e-bike underneath the wheels of the truck. A full investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for East Village Truck Accidents

New York law requires that drivers use reasonable care to avoid striking any bicyclist that they encounter. Pursuant to Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Several steps should be taken after any NYC truck accident.

  • The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • Lots of photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Surveillance footage that may have captured what happened should be reviewed.
  • The family of any person who died in a collision with a truck driver should seek an independent investigation by a team experienced in accident claims.

When a truck driver fails to slow down and hits the cyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Liability for the collision could extend beyond any one driver determined to be at fault. Consider, for example, Fernandez v. Ortiz, 183 A.D.3d 443 (2020). That case involved a truck that struck a bicyclist riding ahead of it on the right side of the lane they were in. Attorneys for the plaintiff argued that the driver should have seen the cyclist and taken measures to avoid hitting them.
