Ford F-250 Involved in Deadly Hit-And-Run Collision With Cyclist on Jamaica Avenue in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (August 20, 2026) – A 29-year-old cyclist tragically died in a Brooklyn hit-and-run car accident involving a pickup truck along Jamaica Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the accident occurred around 5:50 AM on Tuesday. A female cyclist was riding an e-bike when a Ford F-250 pickup truck hit her from behind.
The force of the impact caused the victim to be thrown to the ground before she was run over by the truck. She sustained critical injuries in the accident before being transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The truck driver involved fled the scene and has not been captured by authorities.
Liability for Brooklyn Hit-and-Run Truck Accidents
Every person operating a motor vehicle must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or cyclist that they encounter. In particular, New York Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1146 requires that “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Drivers should take a number of different actions to avoid collisions with any cyclist in the roadway.
- Drivers should maintain a safe following distance with any cyclist.
- Drivers should have at least 3 feet of separation between a cyclist riding in a bicycle lane.
- Drivers should check their mirrors and blind spot before initiating a turn.
- Drivers should always abide by traffic signals and lane markings.
When a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any cyclist in the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. One particularly relevant decision is Deutch v. City of New York. In that case, a cyclist was involved in a collision with a flatbed truck. Attorneys for the plaintiff argued that the truck crossed the line before colliding with the cyclist. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
