Liability In Staten Island Garbage Truck Accidents
Many people are killed or seriously injured every year in car accidents. According to the CDC, “More than 7,000 pedestrians were killed on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle in 2020. That’s about one death every 75 minutes.” Garbage trucks can be particularly dangerous to pedestrians for a number of reasons.
- Garbage trucks have large blind spots that can obscure the presence of pedestrians.
- Garbage trucks can weigh 40,000 lbs and can be difficult to stop.
- Garbage trucks have a wide turning radius and are more prone to side impact collisions.
All garbage truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. When a worker is injured on the job, they will typically have recourse through the worker’s compensation system. Damages can help cover many of the bills that come with a serious injury. A New York City car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
