Pedestrian Injured in Patchogue Car Accident

Unlicensed Driver Charged After Patchogue  Car Accident That Seriously Injured Pedestrian

Man Killed In Bensonhurst, Brooklyn Car Accident at Bay Parkway

PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK (August 20, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Patchogue car accident on Route 112 by Silver Street.

Long Island officials are saying that the incident occurred around 3:00 AM on Tuesday. A 43-year-old pedestrian was walking when they were hit by a 2018 Honda Civic traveling southbound on Route 112.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. He was transported to NYU Langone Hospital in Patchogue to receive treatment for serious injuries.

The driver that hit the victim has since been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Liability for Long Island Pedestrian Accidents

New York law requires that all drivers exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian. In particular, Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1146 indicates that drivers must slow down and use their horn when necessary to alert pedestrians of their presence. Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not eliminate a driver’s responsibility to slow down and take evasive maneuvers. It is important that several actions are taken after any person is injured in a pedestrian accident.

  • Victims should seek medical treatment as early as possible.
  • The police report created after the collision should be carefully reviewed.
  • Eyewitnesses to the collision should be interviewed.
  • Victims should consider their legal options with an experienced personal injury attorney.

When a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian, they could be held legally responsible through a civil claim. Depending on the unique facts of any case, liability for a traffic accident could extend to several other parties. This is particularly true if a truck was being used for any type of commercial purpose at the time of a crash. Victims of pedestrian accidents are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help with all the medical bills and other losses that accrue.
