Pedestrian Injured in Hampton Bays Accident Along Montauk Highway

Medical Helicopter Transported Pedestrian After They Were Hit By Left-Turning Vehicle Near Ponquogue Avenue and Montauk Highway

Pedestrian Killed In Clifton Car Accident

HAMPTON BAYS, NEW YORK (October 26, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Hampton Bays car accident near the intersection of Ponquogue Avenue and Montauk Highway.

Suffolk County officials are saying that the collision occurred around 1:58 p.m. on Thursday. The pedestrian was crossing Ponquogue Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle turning left.

Emergency responders were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. That person was transported to the hospital in a Hampton Bays volunteer ambulance.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Liability for Hampton Bays Car Accidents

New York law requires all drivers to use the caution necessary to avoid any person attempting to cross the roadway on foot. Under Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1111, drivers have a legal obligation to yield to any pedestrian that is lawfully within an intersection or any adjacent crosswalk. If there’s no traffic signal in place in an intersection, drivers must yield to any pedestrian that is crossing within the crosswalk and close enough so as to pose a hazard. Several factors could potentially contribute to a pedestrian collision.

  • Intoxication: Drivers are more likely to hit pedestrians if they are intoxicated.
  • Distraction: Drivers are more likely to hit pedestrians if they are distracted.
  • Poor Visibility: Drivers are more likely to hit pedestrians if visibility conditions are poor.
  • Dark Clothing: Drivers are more likely to hit pedestrians that are wearing dark clothing.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not remove a driver’s duty of care to use caution to avoid a crash. There could be several potential sources of liability for any pedestrian collision, particularly if the vehicle involved was being used for some type of commercial purpose. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of another driver in New York may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a bodily injury claim.
