No Cow Protein Bars Contain Lead and Toxic PFAS, Lawsuit Claims

Environmental Research Center Claims Eight Flavors of No Protein Bars Contain ‘Forever Chemicals,’ According to Legal Filings

No Cow Protein Bars Contain Lead and Toxic PFAS, Lawsuit Claims

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (June 24, 2024) – Several flavors of No Cow protein bars contain lead and toxic PFAS, according to filings with the California Department of Justice.

The filings were made by the Environmental Research Center (ERC), a consumer protection non-profit based out of San Diego. The filings allege that the No Cow protein bars violate California’s Proposition 65 law.

It is alleged that No Cow has been in violation of the law since 2021. PFAS are a class of around 15,000 chemicals that have been put in various products over the years.

They are commonly known as ‘forever chemicals’. because they do not naturally break down. Several studies have shown that they are linked to numerous health ailments, including cancer, liver problems, kidney disease, and immune disorders.

Liability For Products That Contain Forever Chemicals

PFAS can be extremely dangerous, especially when consumed over long periods. People can become exposed to PFAS in a variety of different ways. According to the National Institutes of Health, “Human exposure to PFAS is widespread but variable by geography and occupation. PFAS are used in the aerospace, automotive, construction, and electronics industries. Over time, PFAS may leak into the soil, water, and air.” There are a number of symptoms associated with long-term exposure to PFAS.

  • Liver damage
  • Decreased liver functions
  • Hypertension
  • Reduced vaccine response
  • Gastrointestinal issues

Depending on the facts of any case, a company that sold products that contained PFAS could be liable for any resulting injuries. Companies have a legal obligation to create products that are reasonably safe. They must also comply with all health and safety codes. When food companies fail to do this, they could be held responsible through a product liability claim. It is important that certain steps be taken after developing an injury associated with PFAS.

  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Evidence related to the incident should be collected.
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.

It can be hard to know where to begin after being diagnosed with a serious illness. An illness can jeopardize a person’s health and financial well-being. It can also gravely impact families as well. Any person who is injured by forever chemicals may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. A toxic tort attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
