Liability for Suffolk County Car Accidents
Dangerous turns remain a major cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to NY Veh & Traf L § 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid accidents at intersections.
-
Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards.
-
Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
-
Drivers should use their horn on occasion to alert other drivers of their presence.
If a driver makes an unprotected turn into the path of a motorcycle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be several sources of liability for any car accident. This is particularly true if a vehicle was being used for some type of commercial purpose at the time of a collision. For example, a driver may have been operating their vehicle for Uber or some other rideshare service.
