Multiple People Injured After Bus Rolled Over on New York State Thruway in Ulster County

New Jersey Bus Accident Lawyer

ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK (July 23, 2026) – At least 10 people were injured in Ulster County after a bus rolled over on the New York State Thruway.

New York State Police are saying that the accident occurred around 9:20 AM on Tuesday morning. A bus was heading in the southbound lanes by mile marker 69.5 when it rolled over into the embankment along the side of the interstate.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the injured victims. A total of 10 people reportedly sustained injuries on the bus.

It remains unclear what may have caused the bus to lose control prior to the accident. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Ulster County Bus Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in preventable collisions. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “About 50 passengers (including the driver) are killed, on average, in a given year. Inter-city buses are 1.9 more likely to become involved in an accident, and charter operations have “significantly higher odds of driver error.”” There are many different factors that could contribute to a rollover accident.

  • Rollover collisions tend to happen when a vehicle is traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions.
  • Rollover collisions are much more likely during inclement weather.
  • Rollover collisions may be a consequence of a tire blowout or other catastrophic vehicle failure.
  • Rollover collisions may be caused by side impact collisions that caused drivers to lose control.

Bus drivers are considered common carriers. They are expected to operate with an abundance of caution to avoid hitting other vehicles in the roadway. If a bus driver fails to maintain their vehicle in a single lane and rolls into an embankment, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a bus driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
