Man Killed in Maspeth Bus Accident on Long Island Expressway

Royal Jordanian Crew Member Among Three Killed When a Charter Bus Overturned on the Long Island Expressway

pedestrian accident

MASPETH, NEW YORK (October 31, 2026) – A 42-year-old airline crew member has tragically died in a Long Island Expressway bus accident in Maspeth.

Queens County officials are saying that the collision occurred around 11:45 PM on Monday. A Royal Jordanian crew member was riding in a charter shuttle bus from JFK Airport.

The westbound bus moved from the left lane into a middle lane when it struck a Honda Accord. It then hit another vehicle in the center divider before overturning.

Firefighters and EMS were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Sadly, the 42-year-old airline crew member was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Liability for Maspeth Bus Accidents

Bus companies are considered common carriers and must exercise a great deal of care under the circumstances to avoid injury to their passengers. They can be held responsible for even the slightest negligence of their drivers. New York’s VTL § 1128 also requires every driver to stay within a single lane. According to the statute, “A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety.” Responsibility for any bus accident will typically hinge on a few major issues.

  • Bus Maintenance: The maintenance of the bus involved is a very important part of the equation.
  • Hours of Service: It also matters whether the bus driver was compliant with all hours of service limitations designed to prevent fatigue.
  • Unsafe Lane Changes: Any unsafe lane changes will typically weigh heavily in terms of who could be responsible.
  • Bus Ownership: The company or companies that own the bus should also be considered. Some companies may simply contract with a bus company for transportation services.

Many people are seriously injured or killed every year in preventable bus accidents. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there were roughly 213 fatal collisions involving buses in 2022 alone. Most of the victims in these cases were occupants of passenger vehicles. The family of any person killed in a bus accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
