Woman Killed In Southeast Guardrail Accident on Interstate 684

64-Year-Old Driver Died After Two-Vehicle Collision Along Interstate 685 In Southeast

Woman Killed In Southeast Guardrail Accident on Interstate 684

SOUTHEAST, NEW YORK (January 30, 2025) – A 64-year-old woman has tragically died in a Southeast car accident along Interstate 684.

New York State police are saying that the accident took place around 7:15 AM on Sunday. Two vehicles were driving north on Interstate 684 when one driver lost control of their vehicle and hit a guardrail.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle to veer back into lanes of traffic where it then collided with a secondary vehicle before coming to rest by the center embankment. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims.

Despite life-saving measures, one woman died due to the severe nature of her injuries. Another person was taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment.

Liability for New York Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2022, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” Speeding can increase the odds of a car accident in a number of ways.

  • Drivers are less able to slow down to avoid a collision at higher speeds.
  • Drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicle at higher speeds.
  • Drivers are less able to perceive hazards in the roadway at higher speeds.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. They must operate their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. This may require that they travel substantially below the speed limit, depending on the prevailing conditions of the roadway. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that evidence is properly preserved after any car accident.

  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records related to the accident should be preserved.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • A thorough investigation into the cause of the accident should be conducted.

Liability for any collision could extend beyond a driver. The company that manufactured or installed a guardrail could also be held at fault. Guardrails are designed to prevent air vehicles from hitting fixed objects. They should also prevent vehicles from veering back into lanes of traffic. When a guardrail fails to perform either of these tasks, it may be due to some underlying issue with the guardrail itself.
