Woman Died in Astoria, Queens DUI Collision

Driver Charged Following Fatal Collision in Astoria That Killed Young Woman

Drunk Driving and Personal Injury

ASTORIA, QUEENS (October 9, 2026) – A 23-year-old woman has tragically died in an Astoria, Queens car accident on the Grand Central Parkway.

New York City Police Department officials are saying that the collision occurred around 4:07 AM on Sunday. A Brooklyn man was reportedly heading down the road when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail and light pole before overturning.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all affected. Tragically, a 23-year-old woman riding in the passenger seat was ejected onto the roadway before being transported to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

Sadly, she did not survive her injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The 34-year-old driver of the Honda has since been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs.

Liability for Astoria DUI Car Accidents

New York law requires that all drivers use caution and care to avoid collisions with objects and other road users. This necessitates that they maintain a safe speed. Moreover, Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1192(4) prohibits any person from operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Multiple actions should be taken after any car accident involving an intoxicated driver.

  • The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • Victims should receive medical treatment. Many of the injuries associated with the crash are not going to be immediately obvious.
  • Surveillance footage that may have captured the collision should also be reviewed.
  • Victims and their surviving family members should seek an independent investigation by a team experienced in accident claims.

When a driver causes an accident while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they could be legally responsible for any resulting injuries that other people sustain. Depending on the unique facts of any case, liability for such a collision could extend to several parties. This includes bars and other operations that serve alcohol if they continued serving someone who is already visibly intoxicated. The family of any person who died in a DUI collision is able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
