Udeshi Sundeep Killed In Manhattan Car Accident On East 76th Street By Third Avenue

UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN (January 27, 2022) – A woman identified as Udeshi Sundeep has tragically died in a car accident by the intersection of East 73rd Street and Third Avenue.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:37 a.m. on Monday, January 24th. Udeshi Shruti Sundeep was trying to cross the street when she was hit by an Audi sedan making a right turn.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures Udeshi Sundeep died due to her injuries.

Several hours after the crash police arrested the driver of the Audi sedan and charged them with failure to yield to a pedestrian. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Upper East Side Car Accidents

It has been estimated that nearly 93% of all car accidents are due to human error. This is especially true with respect to pedestrian collisions. Most are totally preventable. According to the NHTSA, “At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian. Unfortunately, pedestrian injuries and fatalities remain high. In 2019, 6,205 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 76,000 pedestrians were injured nationwide.” There are many steps that can be taken in order to reduce the likelihood of pedestrian collisions.

  • Drivers should look out for pedestrians at all times.
  • Drivers should use caution during periods of reduced visibility.
  • Drivers should always obey the speed limit.

When a driver is negligent and strikes a pedestrian they could be held at fault through a civil claim. Negligence is simply the failure to use the care that a reasonable person would have under a similar set of conditions. For example, many drivers fail to check if crosswalks are empty before making a turn in the roadway. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

The family of any victim that died in a car accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses. It is critical that evidence is properly preserved after an accident. Evidence is what will ultimately be used to determine liability. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
