Helping New York and New Jersey Injury Victims for Over 40 Years.
On August 18th and 19th, the Bronx community will host the 13th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament. This has turned into one of the most action-filled street basketball events on the East Coast. Through the game of basketball, the Gardiner family turned their tragedy of losing six family members in an accident on the Bronx River Parkway in 2006 into one of hope and triumph.
Getting injured in an accident can impact all aspects of your life. Imagine losing members of your family in a single car accident. That is pure devastation. This is the story of Dexter Gardiner, who lost six of his family members in an accident on the Bronx River Parkway on July 9, 2006.
The Gardiner Foundation was established in 2006 by Dexter Gardiner in memoriam of six of his family members who lost their lives in a devastating car accident on the Bronx River Parkway. Dexter and the Foundation embarked on an outreach initiative to help others in his community struggling with a sudden and tragic loss. They offer a variety of support to community members experiencing various social and financial needs, ranging from financial support, college scholarships, computers, and school supplies to burial assistance and spiritual mentoring and guidance.
Dexter and Jeff S. Korek, partner at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C., crossed paths in a summer basketball league in 2009. The firm has been a title sponsor of The Gardiner Foundation’s Basketball Tournament since 2010.
The Gardiner Foundation sponsors various events to further its purpose of recognizing families in need:
One of the most exciting events sponsored by The Gardiner Foundation is the “Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament.” This event is held every year in St. James Park. It is run by The Gardiner Foundation and title sponsored by Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. (Lawyertime.com). The event provides free entertainment, food and beverages. It is also the location of the Scholarship award ceremony.
Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. has also teamed up with The Gardiner Foundation for its annual “The Gardiner Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway.”The event, which is held outside of St. James Park, provides families in need in the Bronx community with Thanksgiving meals. Flyers and sign-up sheets are set up in community centers and churches surrounding the park a few weeks before the event begins. The sheets are collected a few weeks prior to the event and more than 300 families are chosen to win a free Thanksgiving meal.
Dexter Gardiner is a civic leader whose dreams have provided financial, social, emotional and spiritual support to grieving families who have lost loved ones in tragic accidents. Gersowitz Libo Korek, P.C. has stood strong besides this amazing individual to make his dreams come true by providing injured and grieving individuals with the resources they need.
