Liability for Camden County Car Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, killing 12,151, or an average of over 33 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,922.” Speeding can increase the odds of a collision in a number of ways.

  • Drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicle at higher speeds.
  • Drivers take much longer to slow down at higher speeds.
  • Drivers are more likely to be involved in a rollover collision at higher speeds.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. They must not drive at a speed greater than would be reasonable or safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid hitting another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain measures are taken after any car accident.

  • A police report should be created.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Accident victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
  • An experienced car accident attorney should be contacted.

The vast majority of car accidents are preventable. In fact, it has been estimated that nearly 93% of all collisions involve some amount of human error. This tends to involve situations where drivers are either speeding or failing to adequately scan the road ahead of them. Any person that is injured in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
