Pedestrian Critically Injured In Rochester Car Accident On Goodman Street

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (June 12, 2022) – A man was critically injured in a Rochester car accident after he was hit by multiple vehicles along North Goodman Street.

Long Island police officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. A pedestrian was trying to cross the road when they were hit by several vehicles.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. They were taken to the Strong Hospital in order to receive treatment.

Police said that it was raining when the accident took place.

Liability In Long Island Pedestrian Accidents

Far too many pedestrians are seriously injured or killed in car accidents ever year. According to the National Safety Council, “in 2020 most pedestrian traffic deaths occurred in urban settings (80%), on the open road (76%) versus intersections (24%), and during dark lighting conditions (76%). The largest number of pedestrian deaths occur on Saturdays (1,005), and the majority of these deaths happen during dark lighting conditions (821).” There are a number of steps that drivers should take in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.

  • All drivers should slow down at night and during periods of inclement weather.
  • All drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • All drivers should scan the road ahead of them for pedestrian and potential obstacles.

The vast majority of pedestrian collisions are avoidable and involve some amount of human error. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. If a driver fails to exercise due care and hits a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Any person that is injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations that must be observed.
