Pedestrian Critically Injured Holtsville Motor Vehicle Collision

Suffolk County Police Investigating Major Injury Pedestrian Collision by  Patchogue-Holbrook Road and Union Avenue in Holtsville

Man Killed In Bensonhurst, Brooklyn Car Accident at Bay Parkway

HOLTSVILLE, NEW YORK (July 7, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Holtsville car accident near the intersection of Patchogue-Holbrook Road and Union Avenue.

Long Island police officials are saying that the crash occurred around 7:45 PM on Sunday. A pedestrian was crossing through the intersection when they were hit by a 2010 Honda Accord.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim. They were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital to receive treatment for major injuries.

The vehicle involved in the collision has since been impounded.

Liability for Holtsville Pedestrian Accidents

Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Drivers should take several precautions to avoid hitting pedestrians.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
  • Drivers should ensure that their lights are on so they’re able to see pedestrians.
  • Drivers should always operate their vehicle at a safe speed given the prevailing conditions.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

If a driver fails to obey traffic regulations prior to injuring a pedestrian, they could be held legally responsible for the resulting injuries in a civil action. When evaluating whether or not a driver is liable for a crash, courts will take it into consideration whether or not a reasonably prudent person could have avoided the crash. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
