Pedestrian Billed In Bronx Hit-And-Run Collision on Hutchinson River Parkway

New York Police Department Searching For Driver Involved In Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Hutchinson River Parkway

Pedestrian Billed In Bronx Hit-And-Run Collision on Hutchinson River Parkway

BRONX, NEW YORK (October 28, 2024) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a Bronx hit-and-run car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

New York City officials are saying that the incident took place around 8:12 p.m. on Monday. A driver hit a pedestrian crossing the road and then fled the scene.

Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. They found the unidentified man in the roadway unresponsive.

Despite life-saving measures at the hospital, he was later pronounced dead. The NYPD is still searching for the driver involved in the crash.

Liability For Bronx Hit-And-Run Collisions

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in collisions every year. According to the IIHS, “A total of 7,522 pedestrian deaths occurred in 2022. Pedestrian fatalities account for 18% of all crash fatalities. Although pedestrian deaths in 2022 were approximately the same as in 1975, they have increased 83% since reaching their lowest point in 2009.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to pedestrian accidents.

  • Pedestrian accidents are more likely to take place in urban settings.
  • Pedestrian accidents are more likely to occur during the early morning and late evening hours.
  • Pedestrian accidents often involve drivers that make left turns.

All drivers must take precautions in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. When a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a civil claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any pedestrian accident.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.

If a driver flees the scene of a collision, they could face criminal charges in addition to civil penalties. Sadly, though, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to avoid responsibility for car accidents. This is why it is so important for accident victims and their families to seek legal advice as early as possible.
