One Person Killed In Fatal Brooklyn DUI Car Accident on Third Avenue

Woman Arrested for Allegedly Driving Without License and Under the Influence Following Deadly Brooklyn Collision

One Person Killed In Fatal Brooklyn DUI Car Accident on Third Avenue

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (June 26, 2025) – One person has tragically died in a Brooklyn DUI car accident near the intersection of Third Avenue and 67th St.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place in Bay Ridge around 4:45 AM on Saturday. A woman was driving a 2013 Acura TSX when she was allegedly involved in a collision with a 22-year-old man on a moped.

The moped driver also had a 21-year-old passenger. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.

The moped driver died due to the severe nature of his injuries.

Liability for Brooklyn DUI Accidents

Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” Even small amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely.

  • Drivers are less able to stay in their own lane of traffic.
  • Drivers are less able to track objects in the roadway.
  • Drivers are less able to judge the distance of objects in front of them.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid causing accidents. It is illegal for any driver to operate their vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. Commercial drivers are held to an even stricter standard. They must not operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.04% or higher. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that collides with a pedestrian while under the influence of alcohol. It is important that certain steps are taken after any car accident.

  • A police report of the accident should be created.
  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • Medical records related to the incident should be created.

By the time any driver is arrested for DUI, it is common that they drove while intoxicated dozens of times. Sadly, drivers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility for collisions. This is why it is so important that collisions are investigated by an outside party. The family of any person who died in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability with a civil claim.
