Multiple People Injured in Valley Stream Chemical Exposure Accident During Barbecue

10 People Hospitalized After Allegedly Being Exposed to Chemicals By Neighbor During Fourth of July Barbecue

Multiple In 7-Vehicle Car Accidents in Gates on State Route 390

VALLEY STREAM, NEW YORK (July 6, 2026)  – At least 10 people were injured in a Valley Stream chemical exposure accident over the Fourth of July weekend during a family barbecue.

Valley Stream officials are saying that the family was celebrating the Fourth of July when family members noticed that there was a strong odor. People at the barbecue said that their eyes and throat began burning.

One of the people at the barbecue went to the backyard of the home to determine where the odor was coming from. That person reportedly saw a mist that was being sprayed by a neighbor.

One of the victims called 911 after family members began to have a difficult time breathing. In total, ten people were hospitalized. Some of them are reportedly still suffering from lingering health effects.

A full investigation into the incident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Valley Stream Chemical Exposure Accidents

Under New York law, a property owner can be liable for injuries caused by their willful acts. They can also be liable for any injury that is caused by a lack of ordinary care or skill in the management of their property. If a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition on their premises, they must take action. There are many ways that a property owner could be liable for any chemical exposure accident.

  • A property owner may have failed to follow the instructions for any type of chemical spray.
  • A property owner may have allowed dangerous chemicals to be stored improperly.
  • A property owner may have created a nuisance by allowing chemical odors to drift onto a neighboring property.

Being injured in a chemical exposure accident can be scary. Victims may have to contend with lingering health effects that necessitate they spend a lot of money on medical bills. They may also need to take extensive periods of time away from work. Unfortunately, property owners or their insurance providers are not likely to admit fault when someone is seriously injured. That’s why it is so important for victims to consider their options with an experienced attorney.

Steps to Take After Valley Stream Chemical Exposure Incidents

Chemicals that are used for gardening and pest control have been linked to a number of adverse health outcomes, including cancer. According to breastcancer.org, “Depending on where you live and work, you may be exposed to a number of man-made and naturally occurring lawn and garden chemicals every day. Chemicals are used to kill bugs, keep lawns green, and make flowers bloom.  Research strongly suggests that at certain exposure levels, some of the chemicals in these products may cause cancer in people.” Victims of chemical exposure incidents should take a number of measures to protect their health and legal rights.

  • Victims should seek medical evaluation as early as possible.
  • The chemical involved in the contamination should be identified.
  • Physical evidence related to the incident should be collected and preserved.
  • Victims should consult with an experienced attorney to determine their legal options.

One of the great benefits of hiring a personal injury attorney after being injured is that they work entirely on a contingency fee basis. In other words, you don’t owe them anything upfront. They get paid entirely from the opposing insurance party if they’re able to successfully resolve your claim. There are, however, statutes of limitations associated with being able to pursue civil claims. Failing to adhere to those statutes of limitations can result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
