Army Vet Seriously Injured in Head-On Long Island Crash With Drunk Driver

LAKEVIEW, NEW YORK (October 29, 2026) – Multiple people were injured in a Lakeview car accident on the Southern State Parkway.

Nassau County officials are saying that the collision occurred in the evening hours of Wednesday during rush hour. One motorist was reportedly traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near exit 17 when they suffered a medical emergency and were involved in a collision with 10 other vehicles.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the injured victims. First responders were also able to clean up debris that was scattered across the roadway and blocking traffic.

A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Lakeview Multi-Vehicle Accidents

Every person operating a motor vehicle in New York has a legal duty to maintain their vehicle at a safe speed given the prevailing conditions. According to New York Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” Courts will take into consideration several factors when determining liability for any car accident.

  • Vehicle Speed: They will review the speed of all vehicles involved in a collision.
  • Medical Conditions: They will take into consideration the foreseeability of any person’s medical condition.
  • Following Distance: They will review the following distance of the driver involved in the crash.
  • Vehicle Ownership: They will consider the ownership and utility of the vehicle involved.

When a driver fails to slow down and collides with another vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there may be several potential sources of liability for a collision. This is particularly true if a vehicle was being used for some type of commercial purpose. Under New York law, employers can be held vicariously liable for the negligent conduct of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
