The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the collision and ejected in the roadway. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim.
The cyclist was airlifted to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and underwent surgery. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In Woodbridge Garbage Truck Accidents
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) reported that there were over 2,430 accidents with garbage trucks in 2017 alone. Garbage trucks can be particularly hazardous to motorcyclists for a number of reasons. They have large blind spots and a wide turning radius. There are a number of steps that garbage truck companies should take in order to prevent accidents.
- Garbage truck drivers should be properly trained.
- Garbage truck drivers should be well rested before the start of their shift.
- Garbage truck drivers should abstain from drugs and alcohol.
All garbage truck drivers must obtain a commercial license and are therefore held to a high standard in terms of safety. Many collisions are due to garbage truck drivers that make dangerous left turns. Under New Jersey law no driver is permitted to make a left turn when a vehicle is traveling from the opposite direction and close enough so as to pose an immediate hazard. When a truck driver makes an abrupt left turn and causes an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, they can be held at fault through a civil claim. Victims of motorcycle collisions tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries.
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Organ damage
- Spinal cord injuries
Any person that is injured in a garbage truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Sadly, though, garbage truck companies will often fight hard to deny liability for any accident. A garbage truck accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
