Liability In Warren Semi-Truck Accidents
Nearly 4,000 people are killed every year in the United States. Tens of thousands more are left with serious injuries. Speed remains one of the leading causes of truck accidents. Trucks are incredibly heavy and much more difficult to stop. Commercial trucks also have a high center of gravity. This makes rollover collisions much more likely. By necessity, trucks need to make wide turns to reduce the odds of a rollover. Victims of semi-truck accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Organ damage
- Spinal cord injuries
Truck drivers must get a commercial license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. If a truck driver was speeding prior to a crash, they could be considered liable. No driver in New Jersey may travel faster than what would be safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. During periods of reduced visibility or inclement weather, drivers must slow down below the posted speed limits. There are a number of steps that should be taken after any truck accident.
- Any person that is injured should seek medical care.
- Victims should continue to seek follow up care.
- An experienced truck accident attorney should be consulted.
The FMCSA requires commercial trucks to carry between $750,000 – $5,000,000 worth of liability coverage. Any person that is injured in a car accident may be able to seek aid through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
