FLATBUSH, NEW YORK (May 15, 2026) – A 72-year-old e-bike rider has tragically died in Brooklyn after being hit by a vehicle along Flatbush Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:00 p.m. on April 25. A 72-year-old woman was riding down Flatbush Avenue by New York Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle roughly a mile from her home.
Paramedics were called at the scene of the crash to help the victim. She was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County.
Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the hospital roughly 2 weeks after the accident. A full investigation of the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Brooklyn E-Bike Accidents
As e-bikes and other micro-mobility products continued to grow in popularity, so too have accidents involving these vehicles. According to The American College of Surgeons, “More than 1.1 million electric bicycles were sold in the United States in 2022 with a projected annual growth rate of 10%. Over 20,000 people are injured while riding electric bicycles annually with approximately 3,000 individuals requiring hospitalization, and this is likely underreported.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to e-bike collisions.
- E-bike collisions are more likely if drivers are distracted.
- E-bike collisions are more likely if drivers are speeding.
- E-bike collisions are more likely when drivers are traveling through intersections.
- E-bike collisions are more likely in the early morning hours when visibility is reduced.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, this could serve as evidence of negligence. A number of collisions involve drivers that are making dangerous left turns. Drivers are supposed to yield the right-of-way to all cyclists that are close enough to pose a hazard before turning left. The family of any person who died in a NYC bicycle accident is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
