Xarelto Internal Bleeding Lawsuits: Help For People Injured By Blood Thinners

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a blood-thinning medication that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prevent blood clotting in stroke patients with heart rhythm problems known as atrial fibrillation. The effectiveness and safety of this drug has become a big concern because it lacks rapid reversal agents in the event of serious side effects such as internal bleeding. back

Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. represents clients in mass tort personal injury cases. We are currently investigating potential claims on behalf of individuals who have had serious medical problems after taking Xarelto. This medication has resulted in excess blood for many patients, causing them to have serious side effects such as coughing and vomiting blood, blood in their urine and swollen arms or legs. If you are one of these injured individuals, we can help you get the compensation that you deserve.

The Adverse Effects of Xarelto

The FDA approved Xarelto in 2011 to reduce the risk of blood clots, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in patients who had knee and hip replacement procedures. Less than one year after the approval and prescription of the drug, more than 350 Xarelto-related injuries and deaths were reported to the FDA.

The most common problem that Xarelto patients have complained of is pulmonary embolism, which is one of the blood clot-related injuries the medication was supposed to treat and prevent. Moreover, the majority of these patients reported taking Xarelto on a short-term basis following a surgery.

Why Are Xarelto Lawsuits Being Filed?

Two pharmaceutical companies, Bayer and Johnson & Johnson, jointly manufacture Xarelto. Both of these companies are facing numerous lawsuits alleging that Xarelto is dangerous and defective.

One of the major allegations is that, unlike other traditional anticoagulants, the blood-thinning effects of Xarelto cannot be reversed using vitamin K or any other antidote. Doctors do not have an effective means of stopping Xarelto patients from bleeding in an emergency. As a result, the lawsuits allege serious and fatal injuries, such as gastrointestinal bleeding and cerebral hemorrhaging.

Other allegations in Xarelto lawsuits include:

  • Failure to warn about the risk and dangers of potentially life-threatening bleeds
  • Failure to advise doctors as how to intervene and stabilize Xarelto patients in the event of a bleed
  • Marketing Xarelto as being superior to other anticoagulants despite knowing Xarelto patients are at a higher risk for serious and fatal injuries
