sidewalk accident

SEAFORD, NEW YORK (June 20, 2026) – A woman was injured and thrown into the water after a boat exploded in the Shellbanks Marina in Seaford.

Nassau County officials are saying that the accident took place on Thursday. The woman was on board the boat when it suddenly exploded.

The boat had apparently just been fueled prior to the explosion. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Seaford Boat Explosions

Many people are injured in boat accidents each year. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, “In calendar year 2024, the Coast Guard verified 3,887 incidents that involved 556 deaths, 2,170 injuries and approximately $88 million of damage to property as a result of recreational boating incidents.” There are many potential causes of boat explosions.

  • Fuel system leaks
  • Electrical sparks
  • Overfilling gas tank
  • Improper modifications

Depending on the specific facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for any boat explosion. This includes the company that manufactured the boat involved. They could be liable if a defect with the boat or its fuel system contributed to the accident. Any person injured in a boat explosion is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
