Brooklyn authorities are saying that the collision took place around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night. A white Mercedes Benz and a motorcycle collided in the roadway for undetermined reasons.
The force of the impact caused the sedan to collide with multiple parked vehicles. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victims.
Sadly, two people died due to their injuries. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Liability for Brooklyn Car Accidents
Speeding is a major cause of New York car accidents. According to the IIHS, “Almost 12,000 deaths — 29% of all crash fatalities — occurred in speed-related crashes in 2023. High speeds make a crash more likely because drivers have less time to react and because it requires a longer distance to stop or slow down. They also make collisions more deadly because modest increases in speed cause large increases in crash energy.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions.
- Drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.
- Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns and intersections.
- Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for hazards.
Every person operating a motor vehicle in New York must use caution to avoid collisions. They must operate their vehicle at a safe speed, given the prevailing traffic and weather conditions. This may necessitate that drivers slow down well below the stated speed limit. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, this may be construed as negligence. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Broken bones
- Lacerations
Car accidents are often very complex events. They may involve more than one liable party. This is particularly true if a commercial vehicle was involved in a crash. The family of any person who died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
