Liability for New York City Box Truck Accidents
Many people are injured in collisions with emergency vehicles every year. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 198 people died in crashes involving emergency vehicles. More than half of these deaths were occupants of non-emergency vehicles (57%). Deaths among pedestrians accounted for 23% of the total, while emergency vehicle drivers represented 11%, and emergency vehicle passengers accounted for about 7% of the deaths.” Truck drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions.
- Truck drivers should check their blind spots before making turns.
- Truck drivers should yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles when necessary.
- Truck drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for hazards.
Truck drivers must operate with a great deal of caution in order to avoid causing accidents. They must operate their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. Even traveling the speed limit could be considered dangerous depending on the prevailing conditions of the road. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with an emergency vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of truck accidents had to suffer very serious injuries.
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Spinal cord fractures
- Burn injuries
Even after the physical injuries of a car accident have healed, many victims report struggling with long-term psychological trauma. Psychological trauma is more likely to be present if victims feared that their life was in danger. Sadly, truck drivers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if they’re involved in a serious collision. This is why it’s so important that accident victims seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
