17 People Displaced, Three Injured After Glen Cove Apartment Fire That Forced Family To Escape Through Window

Three Injured In Glen Cove, Long Island Apartment Fire

GLEN COVE, NEW YORK (April 19, 2025) – At least three people were injured in a Glen Cove apartment fire at 68 Glen Cove Ave.

Long Island officials are saying that the incident took place around 3:30 AM on Thursday. At least 17 people from five families were forced to evacuate after the building caught fire.

Some of those who escaped managed to do so through a second-story window. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.

The fire was eventually put out. Several people were transferred to the hospital in order to receive treatment for their injuries.

A full investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.

Liability for Long Island Apartment Fires

Residential fires are one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. Many fires are caused by portable heaters. According to the US Federal Emergency Management Agency, “While portable heater fires in residential buildings were only 3% of all heating fires in residential buildings, their consequences were substantial, accounting for 41% of fatal heating fires in residential buildings.” Apartment owners should take a number of measures in order to prevent fires.

  • Maintenance: Apartment owners should ensure that all appliances are routinely inspected and well maintained.
  • Exits: Apartment owners should ensure that no exits in the building are obstructed.
  • Building Codes: Apartment owners should ensure that they are compliant with all building and fire codes.

Property owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done for the safety of all persons on the property whose presence is reasonably foreseeable. If a property owner has actual or constructive knowledge of a dangerous condition on their premises, they must take action. It is important that evidence is properly preserved after any apartment fire.

  • Medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • The source of the fire should be determined.
  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • An experienced premises liability attorney should be contacted.

The vast majority of apartment fires are completely preventable. They tend to involve situations where one or more fire codes are being violated. It is important for victims of residential fires to understand that they do have legal options. They’re able to seek compensation for their injuries through a bodily injury claim. If you’ve been injured in an apartment fire, a premises liability attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know if you have a claim that can be pursued.
