Liability For Brooklyn Semi-Truck Accidents
Bus accidents remain alarmingly common across New York City. According to one report from the New York Post, “At least 2,520 people — or 2.7 per day — were injured [from 2015 – 2018], according to the MTA. At least 14 people died, including a 25-year-old skateboarder, a 62-year-old pedestrian, a 60-year-old motorist and a 70-year-old with a walker who was mutilated by a hit-and-run bus.” Several factors could contribute to bus accidents.
- Buses have large blind spots that can obscure the presence of other vehicles.
- Buses weigh substantially more than other cars and are much more difficult to slow down.
- Bus collisions are much more likely when one or more vehicles are making left turns.
Bus companies are considered common carriers, and their drivers are held to a high standard in terms of safety. All bus drivers must slow down in order to avoid colliding with other vehicles. If a bus driver fails to slow down or makes an unsafe movement so as to contribute to an accident, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Several steps should be taken after any bus accident.
- Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
- Medical records should be preserved.
- Surveillance footage should be sought.
- Medical records should be preserved.
