Liability for New York City Car Accidents
Far too many people are killed or seriously injured every year in motorcycle accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 15.5% of all traffic fatalities and 3.4% of all injuries in 2023.” There could be several factors that contribute to any motorcycle accident.
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
- Inclement weather
- Poor road conditions
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with other vehicles. This necessitates that they maintain a safe follow distance with all other vehicles ahead of them. If a driver fails to maintain a safe follow distance and collides with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person who died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
