Liability for Lindenhurst, Long Island Truck Accidents

Motorcycles account for a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the roadway. But they are involved in a disproportionately high number of serious collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 15.5% of all traffic fatalities and 3.4% of all injuries in 2023.” Drivers should take a number of actions to avoid motorcycle accidents.

  • Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns at intersections.
  • Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them and slow down for hazards.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid collisions. This necessitates that they maintain a safe speed at all times. If a truck driver fails to slow down and collides with a motorcyclist, this can be construed as negligence. Victims of motorcycle accidents should take certain steps to protect their rights.

  • Accident victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
  • Accident victims should call the police as soon as possible so they can investigate.
  • Accident victims should explore all of their legal options with an experienced car accident attorney.

Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for any accident with a truck. For example, if a pickup truck was being used for commercial purposes at the time of a crash, the company that owned that truck could be legally responsible. In general, employers can be held vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who were operating within the scope of their job duties.
