New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:00 PM on Monday. Neighbors reported hearing a loud gunshot wound.

That person was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Liability for Bronx Apartment Shootings
Shootings and other forms of violent crime remain a common occurrence across NYC. According to the NY Post, “Homicides and shootings have been on a downward trajectory, but felony assaults exploded in early 2021 — and remain far above their pre-pandemic lows. The city has seen just over 11,000 such crimes year-to-date, NYPD data show, essentially unchanged from the same period last year and up 3% versus 2024.” Apartment owners should take several actions to prevent shootings and other crimes on the premises.
-
Apartment owners should consider hiring security guards.
-
Apartment owners should ensure that their premises are covered by security cameras.
-
Apartment owners should report suspected crimes to the police.
-
Apartment owners should limit access to their building through locked entrances.
Apartment owners have a legal obligation to protect residents from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This includes harm brought on by criminal activity. If a property owner fails to protect residents from criminal activity, this could serve as evidence of negligence. The family of any person killed in a shooting or other assault may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
