Pedestrian Killed In Clifton Car Accident

HELL’S KITCHEN, MANHATTAN (August 8, 2026) – A man has tragically died in a Hell’s Kitchen hit-and-run car accident with a USPS driver on Ninth Avenue, near West 54th Street.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:30 AM on Saturday morning. A US Postal Service driver was heading down the roadway when they collided with a pedestrian.

That driver did not remain at the scene of the collision and is currently being sought by police. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the innocent victim.

Unfortunately, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Liability for Hell’s Kitchen Car Accidents

Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in preventable hit-and-run car accidents. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds. The 2,049 fatalities that resulted from hit-and-run crashes in 2016 were the highest number ever recorded (NHTSA, 2017).” There are multiple factors that may contribute to any hit-and-run car accident.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions
  • Driver fatigue

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Liability for any pedestrian collision could extend beyond the driver determined to be at fault. A company or government agency could be liable for a collision if one of their workers was involved in operating within the course and scope of their job duties. The family of any victim who died is able to seek some measure of accountability for a wrongful death claim.

Investigating Hell’s Kitchen Car Accidents

We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who died in this crash. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police. It is deeply unfortunate that any person would leave the scene of a major injury collision. There needs to be full accountability across the board.
