Man Killed In Brooklyn Subway Train Accident After Being Dragged

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (July 14, 2022) – A 37-year-old man died after being trapped and then dragged by a Brooklyn subway train near the Madison Avenue Station.

New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim was walking when his leg became stuck between the subway train and the platform.

Police are saying that the man was dragged for some distance after being caught. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim.

Sadly, the man died due to the severity of their injuries. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Brooklyn Car Accidents

Far too many people are killed in subway accidents every year. According to the New York Post, “Nearly 50 people were struck and killed by subway trains or found dead on the tracks during the first eight months of 2021, new MTA records show. Forty-two deaths were blamed on what the agency calls “collisions” with trains, and five others were people who may have fallen on the tracks or come into contact with the electrified third rail in this time span, the latest available data show, the agency said.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a subway accident.

  • Uneven platforms
  • Wet floors
  • Large gaps in subway platforms

The MTA has a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. When they have constructive notice of a dangerous condition on public property, they must take action to correct that dangerous condition. The family of any person that died in a subway accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
